1 Injured in Truck Accident on U.S. 77 in Refugio County, TX
Refugio County, TX — December 22, 2023, one person was injured in a truck accident shortly before 6:00 a.m. along U.S. Highway 77.
According to reports, a 56-year-old man was traveling in a southwest bound grey Toyota Tacoma towing a blue Toyota Tacoma along U.S. 77 in the vicinity southwest of S.H. 239 when the accident took place.

Authorities indicate that, for unknown reasons, an 18-wheeler crashed into the back left corner of the blue Tacoma. The blue Tacoma collided with the grey Tacoma as a result. The two pickup trucks became detached during the accident. The grey Tacoma was forced off of the right side of the road where it overturned and came to rest on its left side. The blue Tacoma went off of the left side of the road, coming to a stop upright after crashing into the cable barriers of the median. The 18-wheeler reportedly fled the scene. The 56-year-old man who had been the sole occupant of the grey Tacoma reportedly sustained suspected serious injuries due to the accident; he was transported to a local medical facility by EMS in order to receive treatment.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was later apprehended and faces charges of failure to stop and render aid. The investigation is ongoing. No additional details pertaining to this incident are currently available.
