Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Crashes involving two semi-trucks often raise questions about visibility, timing, and whether both drivers were following proper traffic rules. In this case, reports indicate that one truck was turning onto Crossroads Road when another truck clipped it, causing it to overturn. That raises a critical question: Which driver had the right of way?
If the turning truck was making a legal turn with enough space, then the other truck’s driver may have been going too fast, following too closely or simply not paying attention. Investigators should review black box data and any available dashcam footage to determine whether the approaching truck had enough time to slow down and avoid the collision.
On the other hand, if the turning truck misjudged the gap in traffic and entered the other truck’s path, then it may bear more responsibility for the crash. Large trucks take time to get up to speed, and if the driver pulled out when they didn’t have enough space, the other truck may not have been able to avoid impact.
Visibility is another key issue. Did sun glare, fog or another factor prevent one or both drivers from seeing each other in time? Was there signage or traffic control at the intersection? Rural intersections can be especially dangerous if drivers don’t have clear sight lines or if stop signs are ignored.
At this stage, there isn’t enough public information to determine exactly what led to the crash. But if authorities only focus on who hit whom without looking at right-of-way rules, speed, visibility and driver decision-making, they may miss key details. A full investigation should take every factor into account to understand how two professional drivers ended up in a collision that could have been avoided.
