Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
A chaotic, multi-vehicle crash like this is sure to result in a complex crash scene. It's important to know how the investigations are being handled, then. A few key questions can help in that regard.
- Do authorities have the time and tools to dedicate to the crash, or are officers not able to focus on the investigations?
- Are the vehicles being inspected for potential defects?
- Has all electronic evidence been preserved (cell phones, cameras, Engine Control Modules)?
Generally speaking, if authorities have clear answers for victims and families, it's generally a sign they're taking investigations seriously. But if the answers come up short, it may be that independent investigators will have to step in.
