Candida Torres Cortez Killed, 4 Injured in Car Accident in Dallas, TX
Dallas, TX — May 30, 2023, Candida Torres Cortez was killed and four were injured due to a car accident at around 5:25 p.m. along Westmoreland Road.
Investigators said that the incident happened at the intersection of North Westmoreland Road and Angelina Drive.

According to officials, 66-year-old Candida Torres Cortez was walking at the time and reportedly attempted to walk across the roadway. While doing so, it appears a Chevy Colorado going northbound struck Torres Cortez. After this, the Chevy reportedly kept driving, leaving Cortez behind. Further down the road at Westmoreland and Canada Drive, it appears that vehicle then ran a red light and crashed into a GMC Sierra.
Cortez succumbed to fatal injuries as a result of the collision. The 19-year-old driver of the GMC and a 29-year-old in the Chevy both had reportedly incapacitating injuries while the Chevy driver had apparently non-incapacitating injuries. Details say a 17-year-old in the GMC may have been injured, as well.
Details from authorities allege that the driver of the Chevy was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision. Right now, additional details are unavailable.
