Sebring Man Killed in Semi-Truck Accident on U.S. 27 in Polk County, FL
Polk County, FL — November 28, 2023, a Sebring man was killed following a semi-truck accident at around 7:30 p.m. along U.S. Highway 27.
Investigators with the Polk County Sheriff's Office said they were called out to the area of Harbor Drive just outside of Lake Wales.

According to their statements, a Sebring man was in a GMC that was going northbound along U.S. 27. Up ahead, it appears a semi-truck was making a u-turn from southbound lanes to go northbound. As it did so, the Sebring man's vehicle crashed into the semi, resulting in him sustaining fatal injuries. The truck driver did not appear to be hurt.
Right now, there isn't any information about whether or not authorities are considering charges. I can't help wondering why that is. The description of events and the images of this intersection I've seen suggest an entirely avoidable series of events that led to a man losing his life. U-turns are inherently dangerous for commercial truck drivers—I've even known plenty of companies over the years who would fire their drivers for even attempting something like what police say led to this crash.
Maybe authorities are just waiting until they have all the pieces in place. But when I see a commercial truck turning into the path of an oncoming vehicle, and there's not even a suggestion of charges or citations, it makes me wonder if authorities left out something important. Is there more to this story some witnesses could help shed light on?
