1 Killed, Maria Cardona-Decalderon, 2 Injured in Car Accident on S.H. 171 in Hood County, TX
Hood County, TX — July 5, 2024, one person was killed while Maria Cardona-Decalderon and two others were injured in a car accident at 6:00 p.m. along S.H. 171.
According to authorities, 55-year-old Maria Cardona-Decalderon, a 55-year-old man, and a 2-year-old boy were traveling in a southeast bound Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck on S.H. 171 in the vicinity southeast of F.M. 3450 when the accident took place.

Officials indicate that, for reasons yet to be confirmed, a northwest bound Ford Ranger occupied by a 50-year-old man failed to safely maintain its lane of travel. It reportedly veered left of center and into the oncoming lane of traffic. There, it was involved in a head-on collision with the southeast bound Chevrolet pickup truck.
The man from the Ford suffered fatal injuries as a result of the wreck. Cardona-Decalderon sustained severe injuries, according to reports, and the other two occupants of the Chevrolet were moderately injuries, as well. They were each transported to local medical facilities by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment.
Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
