Tamara Helm, 1 Injured in Alleged Drunk Driver Accident in Bandera County, TX
Bandera County, TX — September 2, 2024, Tamara Helm and one other were injured following an alleged drunk driver accident at around 9:45 p.m. on Highway 46.
Authorities said in preliminary statements that the accident happened in the area of Deer Creek Drive East, a few miles west of Boerne.

According to officials, 45-year-old Tamara Helm was in a Toyota Highlander going westbound on Highway 46. From the eastbound lane, a Mazda CX-5 went left of center, crashing into Helm head-on. As a result, both Helm and the Mazda driver had reportedly serious injuries.
Authorities say they believe the Mazda driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time. If that's true, then hopefully they've looked into where that alcohol came from. Alcohol providers are often an accomplice to these accidents, and they can slip through the cracks if there aren't thorough enough investigations.
For example, I handled a case not long ago where a drunk driver hit a family head-on, nearly killing a child. Authorities were quick to hold the drunk driver accountable, but their efforts ended there. The family asked us to look into things, and it didn't take long to find out the drunk driver had been unlawfully over-served by a bar. They poured drinking after drink to the point the guy could barely walk to the bathroom without falling over. Despite this egregious behavior, authorities didn't have so much of a blip on their radar for that negligent alcohol provider.
Too often, the only consequences negligent alcohol providers face are through legal avenues completely independent of the authorities. It's one of the reasons I talk about this area of the law so much on this blog. When people actively demand answers from authorities, they can find out where authorities may have come up short so they can take the proper steps to ensure someone picks up the slack.
