Abdiel Hernandez Killed in Car Accident in Fort Worth, TX
Fort Worth, TX — June 24, 2024, Abdiel Hernandez was killed following a single-vehicle car accident at around midnight on I-30.
According to initial statements from authorities, the accident took place along eastbound lanes of the interstate in the area of Summit Avenue.

Officials said that 18-year-old Abdiel Hernandez was in a Chevy Silverado going east along the I-30 on-ramp from Summit. While doing so, the vehicle somehow went to the side and crashed into the concrete wall. The vehicle continued off the ramp and over the side of the raised roadway before crashing into a pillar. As a result of the crash, Hernandez sustained fatal injuries.

Authorities did not mention anyone else being involved in the accident. Right now, the cause of the crash remains unconfirmed. Something I'm always cautious of is when a crash involves factors that are likely to make authorities jump to conclusions. Generally speaking, single-vehicle wrecks are low on their list of priorities, and there is a lot of bias against teenage drivers. A proper investigation should include even complex, unlikely factors, such as mechanical defects, medical emergencies, road design flaws or defects, hit-and-runs, etc. But when authorities see something that is more often caused by driver error, they have a tendency to rush the investigations and assume the victim must have done something wrong.
When they do this, they'll often end up being right. Inevitably, though, those hasty investigations will end up missing unusual important details that the victim may not have had control over. It's one of the reasons I take preliminary investigations into crashes like this with a grain of salt until there have been more thorough independent investigations. Those investigations could ultimately show authorities found all there is to tell. Or, they could show there's more to this story that the victim's loved ones need to hear. Either way, it's best to let the evidence speak for itself, and that requires actually getting the evidence.
