While these details may seem open-and-shut, I have to wonder how closely authorities looked into this crash. Sometimes, there can be extenuating circumstances to consider which only careful accident reconstructions can bring to light.
For example, it should be a red flag to any investigator when two similar-sized vehicles collide and only one person is hurt—seriously so. While not always the case, this can sometimes be a sign that the victim's vehicle experienced a malfunction. Did the seatbelt fail? Did an airbag not go off? Is the vehicle designed or constructed poorly? Likely or not, an inspection should be able to at least rule out such possibilities.
Perhaps authorities here did their due diligence, and they can say whether or not something like that happened here. That said, it's something that I see authorities overlook all the time. That's why it's not surprising when victims and families feel like their situation needs another set of eyes looking things over.
