2 Injured in Car Accident on Ferguson Road in Dallas, TX
Dallas, TX — July 14, 2024, two people sustained injuries following a car accident at around 6:30 p.m. along Ferguson Road.
Investigators said in preliminary statements that the accident happened at the intersection of Ferguson Road and Joaquin Drive.
According to officials, a 42-year-old Dallas man was in a Jeep Grand Cherokee stopped at the light along Joaquin facing eastbound. While there, it appears a southbound Ford Expedition somehow went to the right while crossing Joaquin, and it crashed into the Jeep. The Ford then continued off-road and hit a vehicle in a parking lot. As a result, the Jeep driver was seriously injured. The Ford driver had moderate injuries.

While details aren't confirmed right now, authorities say that the Ford driver had been drinking. If that's true, it would certainly explain how someone managed to veer out of their lane like this. But as simple as folks may assume a situation like that would be, it can actually create a rather complex legal scenario. This is due to the fact that many alcohol-related accidents involve both drunk drivers and negligent alcohol providers.
Simply put, it's illegal in Texas for alcohol providers to serve someone who is obviously intoxicated. When they do so, they can face criminal investigations, fines, license suspensions, and even liability when it leads to people getting hurt. Frankly, this area of the law doesn't get much attention, so it's common for folks who call our firm with questions to be confused when we mention looking into the possibility a bar or liquor store played a role in their accident. I can't begin to count how many times we found a negligent alcohol provider that authorities completely let off the hook because all of their focus was on the drivers.
To be clear, that may not be what happened here. Maybe authorities have already been able to rule out that possibility. However, if independent investigations showed there was more than one party responsible for all of this, it would be far from the first time. If nothing else, it's something that warrants consideration so those involved can at least feel confident they're getting the whole story.
