Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
When accidents like this happen, it's easy for people to assume they result from simple driver error or bad timing. However, based on my experience, crashes involving large trucks and passenger vehicles are rarely straightforward and require thorough investigation.
Investigators will need to explore several possibilities to understand what went wrong. Was the truck driver distracted or speeding? Did the driver of the Equinox experience a medical emergency or other impairment? Additionally, mechanical failures in either vehicle, road conditions, or poor visibility may have contributed to the collision. Determining the sequence of events is crucial in cases like this to fully grasp the factors that led to the loss of life.
If the freightliner was operating under a commercial company, it’s important to examine whether the company was following safety protocols, including ensuring that the truck was properly maintained and that the driver had received adequate training. Commercial trucks pose significant risks on the road due to their size and weight, and any lapses in safety can have devastating consequences, as seen here.
Ultimately, the goal is to uncover the truth and provide answers to those affected by the crash. Even if it requires conducting an independent investigation to obtain vital evidence, it is crucial to consider every factor to ensure that those impacted by the accident receive the clarity and closure they deserve.
