Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
People typically expect allegations of drunk driving to be immediately followed by criminal charges. However, alcohol-related accidents aren't always so straight-forward.
For example, I've handled hundreds of cases involving drunk drivers. A lot of the time, investigations also need to include alcohol providers for possible unlawful over-serving. In Texas, if a bar or similar establishment over-serves an obviously intoxicated person, they, too, can be held responsible for contributing to the resulting accident.
To be rather blunt, that's not something authorities typically look into. I can't recall the last time I had a case against a negligent alcohol provider where authorities had already begun investigating them. However, it would explain the lack of public details about this crash, so hopefully investigators here are taking the time to be thorough and make sure there's a just resolution for the victim's loved ones.
