Dakota Driskell Injured in Alleged Drunk Driver Accident in Austin, TX
Austin, TX — February 25, 2024, Dakota Driskell was injured due to an alleged drunk driver accident at around 10:00 p.m. along Dessau Road.
According to officials, the accident happened in the area of the Dessau Road and Eaton Brook Avenue intersection.
Investigators said that 26-year-old Dakota Ray Driskell was in a Kia Forte going northbound along Dessau Road. At Eaton, authorities say a Ford Ranger was in the roadway making a u-turn. As it did so, Driskell's vehicle crashed into the pickup. Driskell sustained reportedly serious injuries as a result.

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Authorities allege that the Ford driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash and was recommended to be charged for DWI. If those allegations are true, it's a bit concerning to not see any information about what all authorities are investigating. Let me explain.
Drunk driving is such a serious problem across Texas, so it's encouraging when cities or counties take steps to directly address the underlying issues. For example, if I'm litigating a personal injury case against a bar who contributed to a crash in Harris County, it wouldn't be unusual for authorities to already be conducting criminal investigations. The bars and other providers held accountable, then, almost always clean up their act, so they aren't putting anyone else in danger.
In other areas across the state, though, authorities rarely go beyond the drunk drivers actions alone. That allows a lot of negligent alcohol providers to slip through the cracks and continue putting lives at risk. As a result, seeing those alcohol providers held accountable for their actions often requires the victims and families to seek out alternative roads to seeing justice done for the hardships they suffered.
Maybe authorities here were more thorough than their preliminary statements suggest—I'd certainly feel reassured to see evidence of that. In my experience, though, demanding clear answers from authorities is sometimes the only way to get them to start asking questions at all.
