Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Single-vehicle accidents can be complex enough, but commercial vehicles introduce a new layer of complexity. For one, there's the inherent questions that come with single-vehicle accidents. What was the driver doing? Were road conditions poor? Did a tire blowout? Did the vehicle have a defect?
But additionally, there will have to be investigations into things like the driver's hours behind the wheel, if they were pressured to meet unreasonable deadlines, if cargo shifted, if their employer wasn't maintaining the truck properly, etc. That all is often beyond a typical police investigation, which is why I have to wonder if authorities were ever able to get the full story here.
