Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
With any serious crash like this, it's important to make sure authorities are looking into all possibilities rather than just looking for someone to blame. What were road conditions like? How fast was the vehicle going? Are there issues with this intersection? Did they inspect the vehicle for defects? Have cellphone records and vehicle data been preserved? Is there any camera footage of the crash? Likely or not, a proper accident reconstruction will at least be able to rule out extenuating circumstances. This gives victims the best opportunity possible to tell their side of the story. Whether authorities alone provided that kind of insight remains to be seen.
