Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
People tend to think car accidents are simple just because they're common. However, I always talk about the importance of taking all accidents seriously and ensuring investigations are thorough. Even unlikely possible factors, such as vehicle defects, deserve attention. This is because victims aren't always in a position to tell their side of the story, and a lot of evidence needed to fill in the blanks can be time-sensitive and delicate.
Without prompt, thorough investigations, that evidence can be lost. If authorities treat these situations too much like humdrum routine, mistakes happen. So if it ever seems like authorities aren't coming up with clear answers, that's when victims and families might want to consider having another set of eyes look things over.
