2 Killed in Head-on Truck Accident on U.S. 15 near Carthage, NC
Carthage, NC — March 24, 2025, two people were killed following a head-on truck accident sometime in the afternoon along U.S. Highway 15.
According to authorities, a Chevrolet service truck was traveling northbound on U.S. 15 in the vicinity of the Donathan Lane intersection when the accident took place.

The cause of the accident remains unclear. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, the truck failed to safely maintain its lane of travel. It apparently began to swerve before veering left of center, entering the oncoming lane of travel. There, it was reportedly involved in a head-on collision with a southbound Dodge truck.
The two who had been behind the wheels of the trucks suffered fatal injuries due to the wreck, according to reports. Additional details pertaining to this incident—including the identities of the victims—are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
When a service truck crosses into oncoming traffic and causes a deadly head-on collision, the key question isn’t just what happened, but why it happened. In my experience handling truck accident cases, wrecks like this rarely occur without multiple contributing factors that need to be examined.
Why did the service truck veer out of its lane? Drivers don’t typically drift across the centerline without a reason. Investigators should determine whether the driver experienced distraction, fatigue, a medical emergency, or a mechanical failure. Reviewing black box data, cell phone records, toxicology reports, and witness statements will be key to understanding what led to the loss of control.
Was the vehicle in safe operating condition? If a mechanical issue such as brake failure, steering malfunction, or a tire problem contributed to the crash, that would raise questions about whether the truck was properly maintained. Investigators should review inspection records and maintenance logs to determine whether the truck was roadworthy at the time of the wreck.
Was the service truck being used for commercial purposes? Service vehicles are typically operated under business conditions, which brings added safety responsibilities. Investigators should determine whether the driver was properly trained, whether they were under pressure to meet a tight schedule, and whether the company had a documented history of poor oversight. Reviewing company records and safety practices could reveal whether broader operational issues played a role in the crash.
At the end of the day, the most important thing is finding answers. Even if it takes an independent investigation to gather the right evidence, it’s critical to examine every factor to ensure those affected by the crash get the clarity they deserve.
