New Mexico Child Injured in Car Accident on I-27 in Amarillo, TX
Amarillo, TX — October 27, 2025, a New Mexico child and one other were injured following a car accident around 9:30 p.m. on I-27.
According to initial details about the accident, it happened along northbound lanes of the highway near NW 45th Avenue.
Investigators said that residents from Hobbs, New Mexico, were in a Jeep Wrangler going along the interstate. A Chevy Silverado was going the same direction when it reportedly made an unsafe lane change. This led to the vehicles colliding.
Due to the accident, a child in the Jeep had serious injuries. One other person had injuries, as well. Additional details are unavailable at this time.

There's likely a lot more to this story than these initial reports suggest, but one detail in particular stands out to me. If only one person in the Jeep was seriously injured, why was that? Sometimes, there's a reasonable explanation. Other times, though, that can be a sign of unusual, unforeseen vehicle defect, such as a faulty seatbelt or other safety feature. Did authorities here inspect the vehicle for potential defects? If not, they may have overlooked something important.
