Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Just to be clear, I'm not here to suggest I know anything about this accident that isn't already public. Rather, I notice a detail that often goes overlooked, and I have to wonder if authorities here happened to catch it.
Put simply, it can be a red flag when only one person in a vehicle is seriously injured while everyone else appears to be okay. Sometimes, this is a sign that something which protected all of the other occupants failed to do so for the more seriously hurt victim.
Now, there could be an ordinary, reasonable explanation for that, but it could also be the result of a vehicle defect. Failed airbags or seatbelts, for example, can result in otherwise minor crashes becoming severe or deadly. Ruling this out generally requires careful inspections, and I've seen far too many situations where authorities completely overlooked those possibilities and missed something important.
Maybe authorities here have been more thorough, but it doesn't hurt to make certain nothing has slipped through the cracks. At the very least, it's something worth shining a light on just so folks understand the sorts of details they should expect to see from a proper accident reconstruction.
