Houston, TX — December 30, 2024, Norma Rodriguez and three other people were injured in a car accident at about 9:40 p.m. on Almeda Genoa Road.

A preliminary accident report indicates that an eastbound 2007 Lexus RX 350 collided with a westbound 2018 Ford F-150 near Segrest Drive.

The Ford driver was not injured, but passenger Norma Rodriguez, 56, and two 15-year-old girls suffered serious injuries in the crash, according to the report.

The driver of the Lexus, a 22-year-old man whose name has not been made public, also was seriously injured in the crash, the report states.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Harris County crash.

When I read about a crash like this, my first thought is that I hope all those injured receive proper care and that investigators are conducting a full review to determine how the incident occurred. A head-on collision involving multiple serious injuries requires a thorough and fact-based investigation. To understand what happened on Almeda Genoa Road, we need to ask three critical questions.

First, did the authorities thoroughly investigate the crash? In a two-vehicle collision like this one, identifying which vehicle entered the opposing lane and why is essential. Were road markings clear and visible? Was there a curve, obstruction or limited visibility that could have contributed to the collision? Were speed limits appropriate for the area and conditions at the time? Investigators should collect physical evidence — such as tire marks, debris fields and vehicle rest positions — and evaluate environmental conditions to reconstruct the crash accurately.

Second, has anyone considered whether a vehicle defect may have played a role in the crash or the severity of the injuries? Both the 2007 Lexus RX 350 and 2018 Ford F-150 should be inspected for any mechanical or safety system failures. Did either vehicle experience a steering or brake malfunction that caused a driver to lose control? Were the airbags and seatbelts functioning as intended for all occupants?
