Richmond Teal, 1 Injured in Hit-and-Run Car Accident on I.H. 69 in Houston, TX
Harris County, TX — November 29, 2024, Richmond Teal and another man were injured in a hit-and-run car accident shortly before 3:00 a.m. on I.H. 69.
According to authorities, 25-year-old Richmond Teal and a 26-year-old man were traveling in a northbound Chrysler 300 on Interstate Highway 69 in the vicinity of the I.H. 10 junction when the accident took place.

The cause of the accident remains unclear. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, a northbound vehicle of unknown make or model failed to safely maintain its lane of travel. A collision subsequently took place between the left side of the unknown vehicle and the right side of the Chrysler. The unknown vehicle allegedly fled the scene, the person(s) inside failing to stop and render aid of any sort to the victims.
The Chrysler apparently also struck an attenuation device over the course of the accident. Both Teal and the man who was also in the vehicle with him reportedly suffered serious injuries due to the wreck. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
Commentary
When I see reports like this, my main concern is whether Richmond Teal, the other injured man, and their loved ones will get the answers they need about what happened. A hit-and-run crash adds another layer of complexity to an already serious situation, making it even more important to ask the right questions. That’s why it’s critical to examine three key issues in any accident investigation.
The first question is whether authorities have conducted a thorough investigation. Law enforcement will likely search for evidence of the fleeing vehicle, including paint transfer, vehicle debris, and witness statements. However, some key details can sometimes be overlooked. Were there any traffic cameras, surveillance footage, or dashcams from other drivers that may have captured the suspect vehicle? Did nearby businesses or highway departments have footage that investigators can use? Were officers able to collect enough physical evidence at the scene to help identify the vehicle and its driver? A complete and thorough investigation is essential to holding the responsible party accountable.
The second question to consider is whether anyone has looked into the possibility of a vehicle defect. While the primary focus is on the hit-and-run driver, it’s also worth examining whether the Chrysler 300 had any mechanical failures that contributed to the severity of the crash. If there was a braking issue, stability control failure, or airbag deployment problem, those factors could have worsened the occupants’ injuries. Unfortunately, these potential defects are rarely investigated unless someone specifically pushes for an examination. A forensic analysis of the Chrysler could help determine whether a defect played a role.
Finally, it’s important to determine whether all relevant electronic data has been collected. The Chrysler’s engine control module may have recorded crucial details about speed, braking, and steering inputs leading up to the crash. Additionally, nearby traffic cameras, toll booths, or license plate readers may have captured identifying information about the fleeing vehicle. Even cellphone data might be relevant if distraction was a factor. Securing this evidence quickly is essential to preserving a full and accurate account of what happened.
At the end of the day, answering these questions could be essential to understanding what really happened and why. A thorough examination of all three of these issues—including the quality of police investigations, possible vehicle defects, and electronic data—is the least that can be done to ensure that those affected by the crash receive the clarity they deserve.
