Robert Brandon Benavides Jr. Killed in Car Accident in Harris County, TX
Harris County, TX — December 10, 2023, Robert Benavides Jr. was fatally injured due to a single-vehicle accident at around 3:00 a.m. on the North Freeway.
Authorities said that they were called out to the 22500 block of the southbound I-45 service road.
It appears 28-year-old Robert Benavides Jr. was in a car traveling along the interstate service road when, for reasons unclear, it ran off the side of the road. As a result, the vehicle flipped over and came to a stop along main lanes of the freeway. Benavides sustained fatal injuries due to the accident.

There were no other reported injuries. Authorities have yet to confirm what caused the accident. Something I address a lot on this blog is folks jumping to conclusions, and rarely is that more of a problem than with single-vehicle accidents. Why is that?
Generally speaking, common factors in single car crashes are things like speeding, fatigue, alcohol, and distraction. But there are all kinds of other possible factors to consider which victims don't necessarily have control over. Tire blowouts, mechanical defects, road hazards, other drivers who fled the scene, medical emergencies—common or not, if investigators don't consider these possibilities, they may not be missing something crucial.
Considering how few details are available right now, I doubt anything we're seeing in the public is telling the whole story. Until those facts are clear, I'll say as I always do that people should avoiding jumping to conclusions.
