Mother, Child Killed in School Bus Accident on New Street in Mamaroneck, NY
Mamaroneck, NY — June 20, 2024, a mother and her child were killed following a school bus accident at around 8:30 a.m. on New Street.
Initial details about the accident say that the collision took place at the intersection of New Street and Mamaroneck Avenue, outside the Mamaroneck Centre shopping center.

According to officials, a 43-year-old woman and her 6-year-old child were reportedly crossing the intersection in a crosswalk. While doing so, police say a school bus was attempting to make a turn, reportedly with a green light, but it hit the woman and the child in the process. Both died as a result. Authorities did not say if any charges were being considered.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
I've seen at least one report claim that pedestrians at this crosswalk had a walk signal, and there may have been other pedestrians crossing when the collision happened. Is that true? Because if so, it would be a serious red flag that a bus driver would try to make a turn through those conditions. It could be a sign of someone trying to rush when they should have been careful, or it could be a sign a driver wasn't paying attention to their surroundings. Maybe the driver did nothing wrong here, and details would show this all was just an unavoidable accident. But based on what I'm seeing right now, I can't help wondering if a responsible driver could have avoided this.
