Children Injured in School Bus Accident on Singleton Road in Truxton, NY
Cortland County, NY — February 9, 2026, three children were injured following a school bus accident at around 8:35 a.m. along Singleton Road.
In initial statements on the crash, it took place in the area of the Singleton Road and South Hill Road.
It appears that a Homer Central School District bus was carrying children at the time. Somehow, the bus ended up going off-road and partially overturning into a ditch. Due to this, three children had to be taken to the hospital. Reports suggested there may have been head injuries.
Right now, the cause of the crash remains unconfirmed.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
When a school bus crash like this happens, investigations shouldn't focus just on what happened; investigations should also consider how to ensure this doesn't happen again.
Was this an issue caused by poor maintenance? Was the bus driver distracted? Are they inexperienced, or do they have a history of reckless behavior behind the wheel? Or, was this something unavoidable, like a reckless driver forcing the bus off-road and fleeing the scene?
Seeing there's help and accountability for the families directly impacted by this crash is obviously a priority. But we as parents trust school districts to transport our children safely. If they can't guarantee that, that's a huge problem.
