Cameron County, TX — June 24, 2024, a teenager was injured following a single-vehicle car accident at around 1:00 a.m. along North Iowa Avenue.
According to officials, the incident took place near the intersection of North Iowa Avenue and South Bernal Drive.

Investigators said that a 19-year-old woman was in a Ford Explorer along with an infant. They were going southbound on Iowa Avenue when the vehicle ran off the side of the road. It then crashed into a utility pole. As a result, the woman sustained serious injuries. The child was reportedly okay.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Currently, police have mentioned fatigue as a possible factor in the crash. When something like that happens, people tend to consider the matter open-and-shut. But it's always important to consider that the cause of a crash and the cause of someone's injuries aren't always the same thing.
For example, I recall a case where a woman rear-ended a semi-truck, and authorities just wrote off the whole thing as driver inattention. But what stood out was the woman's injuries seemed incredibly severe despite the relatively minor impact that occurred. Digging into things more thoroughly, it came to light that the driver's airbag was defective, leading to serious injuries that otherwise would be preventable.
That's obviously not a very common situation, but that's why thorough investigations are always important. Letting the evidence speak for itself is the best way to ensure nothing slips through the cracks. I don't see why this accident would be an exception to that.
