Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Wrong-way accidents raise some all too familiar red flags. Obviously, I wouldn't suggest overlooking those possibilities. However, it's always important to consider all possible factors—even unlikely ones.
For example, I recall some years ago here in Dallas there was a toll road that saw an unusually high number of wrong-way driving incidents. Through careful analysis, investigators ultimately determined that the warning signs along the exit ramps were too high. By lowering those signs, they were easier for drivers to see at night and in bad weather, and the number of wrong-way drivers went down.
I'm not suggesting that did or didn't happen here. It's just important for victims and families to know they're getting the whole story. That doesn't happen when investigators jump to conclusions.
