Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
With single-vehicle wrecks, it can surprise people to learn how often authorities just move on without getting the whole story. That's not always the case, but a lot of the calls I get from people dissatisfied with the answers they're getting from official investigations are in regards to single-vehicle accidents. Officers don't always have the tools, training, or time to consider less common, more challenging possible factors, such as mechanical defects or road design flaws. As a result, they may move on to things their department considers a higher priority, allowing important details to slip through the cracks. Common or not, though, it's important to consider any possibility contributing to a serious accident. Otherwise, those involved may end up bearing the burden of wrongs for which others should be taking responsibility.
