2 Killed in Alleged Hit-and-run Truck Accident on I-95 in Brevard County, FL
Brevard County, FL — May 2, 2025, two people were killed following an alleged hit-and-run truck accident at around 10:00 a.m. along I-95.
According to initial details about the accident, it happened in the Palm Bay area along southbound lanes of the interstate.

Investigators said that two surveyors were along the shoulder working outside of their vehicle. While there, a semi-truck apparently left its lane, and it crashed into the surveyors. As a result, the surveyors were killed. A motorcyclist was also struck, but they reportedly weren't injured.
The truck driver involved allegedly left the scene of the accident. Authorities reportedly arrested the alleged runaway driver later that day. They report that person is being charged for hit-and-run involving death.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
If the allegations here are true, then there will no doubt be steps to see the runaway driver faces consequences for their actions. But are they the only ones who need to be held accountable? After any accident caused by a commercial truck driver's mistakes, investigators need to determine if the driver's employer contributed to the accident, as well.
I've handled hundreds of commercial vehicle accident cases. A lot of serious accidents involve employers who created dangerous working conditions that made a deadly accident all but inevitable. Some will force drivers to meet unreasonable deadlines, leading to reckless driving, driving long hours, skipping maintenance work, etc. Other times, employers may hire inexperienced or reckless drivers who are dangerous behind the wheel, allowing them to operate multi-ton trucks just for the sake of getting cargo moving. Eventually, something is going to go wrong.
On top of all of that, there's the concern about the allegations of the driver fleeing the scene in the first place. In my experience, that usually happens when a driver has something specific to hide from authorities. It could be the driver had warrants, was under the influence, wasn't properly licensed to driver the truck, etc. One has to wonder, if such factors did lead a driver to flee this accident scene, were there known issues that an employer did nothing to address?
All this is to say that these current details, serious as they may be, might only scratch the surface. There could be a whole lot more to this story that still needs to be addressed. If nothing else, there are families out there who deserve to know there will be accountability for what happened here.
