Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
It's not my place to speculate on any given an accident, but rather it's important to always highlight some common challenges I deal with on a near daily basis. When it comes to single-vehicle wrecks, one of the most common concerns is people want to be sure their side of the story is told fairly. To help ensure that happens, it can be crucial to verify that authorities are looking into a few key details.
One of the first questions to consider is whether investigators had the proper time and tools to fully examine the crash scene. In single-vehicle accidents, details like tire marks, debris, and road conditions are essential to understanding what happened. If those weren’t captured, important context may already be missing.
Next, has anyone inspected the vehicle for potential defects? Brake or steering problems can cause sudden loss of control, and defective airbags or seatbelts can lead to more serious injuries. These types of issues are often overlooked without a detailed inspection early on.
Lastly, was electronic data preserved? Most vehicles today store speed, braking, and steering input before a crash. Alongside phone records, GPS data, or nearby surveillance footage, this information can help fill in the blanks—but only if collected quickly.
If authorities ignored these important details, then it could be a sign they've missed important details. If nothing else, that can be reason enough to consider secondary investigation that might show there's more to the story than authorities let on.
