Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
This soon after a fatal crash, it's not unusual for there to be few details publicly available. However, it would surprise people how often the victims and families affected by a crash get about as much information behind the scenes. Authorities don't always take the time to give every serious accident the attention it needs, and that can lead to important details slipping through the cracks.
That's why many end up looking to independent investigators who can pick up the slack. When people feel that their doubts and concerns aren't being addressed, they'd naturally want a second set of eyes to look things over and ensure authorities aren't missing anything.
Sometimes, those independent efforts can help reassure a family that the accident is in good hands. Other times, they may show that authorities fell short, and there are new details that need to be brought to light. Either way, the priority should be to let the evidence speak for itself. It's just a matter of ensure someone with the right tools and experience are actually getting that evidence.
