Maria Lopez Gomez Killed, Joanne Gomez Injured in Car Accident in Hungerford, TX
Wharton County, TX — December 27, 2023, Maria Lopez Gomez was killed and Joanne Gomez was injured following an accident at around 2:18 p.m. on Highway 60.
Preliminary information released about the deadly crash say it took place in the area of Highway 60/McKinney Street and East Live Oak Street where McKinney and Business 59 split.

According to investigators, 45-year-old Joanne Gomez and 64-year-old Maria Lopez Gomez were in a Buick Encore that was going southbound on the highway traveling through the intersection where McKinney splits off to the west. At that crossing, authorities say a northbound Lincoln MKX failed to yield making a left turn, and the vehicles collided.
Due to the collision, Maria Lopez Gomez sustained fatal injuries. Joanne Gomez had injuries described as moderate. The other driver's condition can't be confirmed. Right now, additional details about the crash are unavailable pending investigations.
