When accidents like this happen, it’s easy for people to assume they’re just the result of a momentary error or bad timing. However, based on my experience, incidents involving 18-wheelers and multiple vehicles are rarely straightforward and often involve complex factors that require thorough investigation. This crash along Interstate 95 is no exception.
While details are still emerging, a key focus of the investigation should be on how and why the 18-wheeler became involved in the crash. Large trucks like this pose significant risks to other vehicles due to their size, weight, and limited maneuverability. Was the truck driver distracted, fatigued, or driving too fast for the conditions? Or was a mechanical issue—such as brake failure or tire problems—a contributing factor? Answering these questions is critical to determining the true cause of the wreck.
It’s also important to consider the actions of all parties involved. With three passenger vehicles in the mix, investigators will need to piece together whether any sudden movements, erratic driving, or even chain reactions from other collisions played a role in causing the crash. A thorough examination of dashcam footage, witness statements, and the vehicles' onboard data is essential in understanding what went wrong.
If the 18-wheeler was operating under a commercial trucking company, it’s also essential to examine the company’s role in the incident. Trucking companies have a responsibility to ensure their drivers are well-trained and their vehicles are properly maintained. If unsafe company policies or poor vehicle upkeep contributed to the crash, the company may share responsibility for what happened.
Ultimately, the goal is to uncover the truth and provide answers to those affected by the crash. Even if it requires conducting an independent investigation to obtain vital evidence, it is crucial to consider every factor to ensure that those impacted by the crash receive the clarity and closure they deserve.
