DeKalb County, IN — January 14, 2026, Breeanna Mills was injured following a multi-truck accident at around 1:40 p.m. along I-69.

Authorities said that the accident happened near the exit for County Road 11A, south of Auburn.

Investigators said that 23-year-old Breeanna Mills was in a Chrysler Town & Country going along southbound lanes of the interstate. Up ahead, authorities say that an 18-wheeler broke down on the inside lane because a trailer's axle broke. After this, another semi hit debris and stopped along the right side of the road. The Chrysler then crashed into the second semi, following which a third semi-truck crashed into the Chrysler.

Due to the accident, Breeanna Mills was taken to a hospital. One of the truck drivers reportedlu went to a hospital, as well. Their conditions are unclear. Investigations are ongoing at this time.

To say the crash investigations into this will be challenging would be a major understatement. How did a trailer's axle break? Was it unexpected, or was it due to neglected maintenance? How much time passed between all the collisions? Did either of the disabled trucks have cones or flares placed to warn motorists? Were the ensuing collisions after the first one avoidable? Have authorities worked to preserve all the vehicles involved so they can be inspected by independent specialists before they're taken for repairs?

These are just some of the questions I have simply reading the news stories on the crash. A professional accident reconstruction would no doubt ask these same questions and many more. It's important victims and families involved in a serious truck wreck are able to get those answers. If they just wait around for the authorities (who generally focus on clearing the scene and looking for potential charges to file), they may end up empty-handed. It may be worth following up with the authorities early on to find out if independent investigators need to step in and help ensure all the facts are brought to light.
